Hong Kong will look to next weekend’s match with South Korea with confidence after a tough Asia Rugby Championship hit-out against Japan on Saturday.

The 38-3 score-line in favour of the visitors would suggest a one-sided affair, but Hong Kong’s work ethic and fight could not be questioned.

“It was a contest, we can get something out of that,” said Hong Kong coach Leigh Jones.

“Recent games against Japan have been nothing games. At least today it’s a contest and I think it makes the competition a better competition and it gives us a marker to where we need to go.”

We know where we are and we’ve just got to strive and improve. Get fitter, stronger and [build on] the ability to enact skill under pressure
Leigh Jones, Hong Kong 15s coach

After speaking in the build-up about not knowing exactly where the side was at, Jones is now well aware of what must be improved ahead of next Saturday’s match in Incheon and beyond.
