Paris Olympics day 2: Haughey into 200m final, USA basketball men win – as it happened
- LeBron James and his fellow NBA stars begin with a victory, China’s women’s rugby team shine and Hong Kong table tennis duo reach last four

While Hong Kong continued to bask in the golden glow of having another Olympic champion to its name, the action came thick and fast in Paris on day two of the 2024 Games.
Newly crowned women’s épée champion Vivian Kong Man-wai was cheering on Hong Kong teammates Daphne Chan Nok-sze and Cedric Ho Wai-hang, though both eventually bowed out in the women’s foil and men’s épée.
Siobhan Haughey began her Games by coming through the heats and semi-finals of the 200 metres freestyle, while there was a mighty showdown in the men’s 100m breaststroke final.
Haughey’s fellow Hongkongers Wong Chun-ting and Doo Hoi-kem closed in on a table tennis mixed doubles medal, reaching the semi-finals.
Having claimed the first gold of the Olympics in the mixed team 10m air rifle, China celebrated another shooting gold thanks to Xie Yu in the 10m air pistol.
China’s women’s rugby sevens players enjoyed a statement victory, and Team USA’s men’s basketball team, dubbed The Avengers, also began with a win.
