Paris Olympics: Siobhan Haughey, Cheung Ka-long named Hong Kong flag-bearers for ceremony
- ‘Such an honour,’ swimmer Haughey says as Hong Kong teams board flight to France with the sporting extravaganza’s opening ceremony days away

Siobhan Haughey and Cheung Ka-long have been named as Hong Kong’s flag-bearers for Friday’s Olympic opening ceremony.
The announcement of the superstar pair was made at Hong Kong International Airport on Monday by Brian Stevenson, chef de mission of the city’s delegation for the Games, as the athletes prepared to fly to Paris.
Swimmer Haughey said it was “such an honour”, three years after her two silver medals helped Hong Kong to a record haul at the Tokyo Olympics. Cheung, who won gold in Japan with his shock fencing triumph, travelled to France 11 days earlier.
The pair are among Hong Kong’s strongest medal prospects for Paris, with Haughey swimming in the 100 and 200 metres freestyle and Cheung competing in the men’s individual foil.

Stevenson said: “I am very pleased, because they are our very best medal winners from Tokyo … I hope those athletes carrying our flag is good feng shui.”
