Ex-Olympic weightlifter fails to make clean getaway after trying to snatch eggs from shop

Former Olympic weightlifter Toshiki Yamamoto, who represented Japan at the Tokyo Games, has been arrested for stealing items including eggs from a convenience store and injuring an employee who tried to stop him.
According to Japanese media outlet FNN, the former athlete, now self-employed, was caught at the scene on Saturday at a convenience store in Tokyo’s Kita Ward.
The arrest warrant alleged that on the afternoon of that day, Yamamoto stole a carton of eggs and soy sauce from the shop.
When a male clerk in his 40s spotted the theft and grabbed the suspect’s backpack, Yamamoto tripped him, fracturing a finger on the employee’s left hand.
