World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship: Ireland, England set for blockbuster clash
- Tight 16-11 defeat leaves China needed a miracle, but coach says battling for ninth place was what they expected at start of tournament
Ireland and England are set for a blockbuster clash in the final round of group matches at the World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship on Tuesday.
A 21-2 victory over Jamaica took the Irish to 3-0, leaving them unbeaten at the top of Pool D and with everything to play for as teams battle it out for spots in the quarter-finals.
The two sides are up first at 8.30am at Football Club, with all manner of results still available.
An Ireland win would clinch the top spot in the pool. If England win by three or more goals, they will overturn the tiebreakers between themselves and Ireland. If England win by one or two goals, Ireland still advance in second place.
If Japan lose to Hong Kong in the last game on Tuesday, Ireland can still advance with a loss to England of any scoreline.
But China’s hopes of progressing to the last eight were left in tatters on Monday, after they lost 16-11 to Puerto Rico in a tight game at Football Club.
