The unbeaten American boxer said he had signed with Japanese mixed martial arts promotions company Rizin Fighting Federation to fight kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in Saitama, Japan.
New Year’s Eve is traditionally a huge fighting occasion in Japan with many top bouts usually scheduled to take place on December 31.
Mayweather earned a nine-figure sum when he convincingly defeated McGregor in their hugely anticipated boxing showdown in Las Vegas in August 2017, and has talked about another return from retirement in recent weeks.
There were strong suggestions recently that the American would renew his rivalry with Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao before the end of 2018.
