Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were both disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday for technical infringements, along with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, hours after Oscar Piastri led teammate Lando Norris over the line in a McLaren one-two.

George Russell was third in a Mercedes with world champion Max Verstappen finishing fourth after passing Leclerc late in the race.

Piastri, who led from start to finish, denied Norris a third victory in a row, including last year’s season-ender, but left champions McLaren unbeaten in two races so far this year.

For Hamilton, it was a disastrous end to a weekend that had started so brilliantly for Ferrari when he took his maiden win for his new team in Saturday’s sprint, followed by his posting the fastest lap in Sunday’s race at the Shanghai International Circuit.

After the race, one of the skid blocks on his car was found to be less than the required thickness after the race.

Formula One cars have skid blocks in the floor that are meant to ensure that the car maintains a certain ride height and does not run too low. The skids are situated in the underfloor wooden plank, which also has a minimum depth for the same reason.
