ONE 170: Nabil Anane strikes down Nico Carrillo to take Muay Thai belt in sensational win
Nabil Anane is promotion’s new Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai champion after first round TKO
Nabil Anane has solidified his reputation as one of the most fearsome strikers in combat sports with a sensational first-round TKO victory over Scotland’s Nico Carrillo to claim the ONE Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship.
The 20-year-old Algerian-Thai, ranked fifth heading into the bout, delivered a masterclass in range control and striking precision to overwhelm the No 2 ranked Carrillo.
The 6ft 4in Anane used his height and reach advantage to devastating effect, knocking down the Scottish fighter three times in the opening round at ONE 170 in Bangkok on Friday. The first knockdown came from a crisp straight right hand, followed by a head kick that left Carrillo visibly dazed. The final blow came via a flurry of monster right hands, forcing the referee to step in at 2:35 of round one.
Anane’s victory not only earned him the interim bantamweight title but also secured a World Title unification bout against reigning champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 172 in Japan on March 23.
“There are so many people behind me,” Anane said during the post-fight press conference. “My coaches and parents have always taught me to stay humble and disciplined. With their guidance, I’ll keep working hard and remain grounded despite the money and fame.”
Chatri Sityodtong, the ONE Championship chairman and CEO, heaped praise on the young star, comparing his physique and dominance to Muay Thai legend Dieselnoi Chor Thanasukarn.
