ONE Championship: headline act Superbon tips bright future for breakout star ‘Jojo’ Ghazali
The Malaysian-American, who burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old, has quickly become one of the promotion’s most-talked-about prospects
When Johan Ghazali walks into a room, it’s clear there’s something special about him. The confidence and style are unmistakable, but behind the expensive sunglasses lie a relentless drive and work ethic that truly sets him apart.
“When JoJo first came to the gym, I didn’t think he was that good,” the legendary fighter Superbon (116-36) told the Post with characteristic candour. “He was young, inexperienced – just one of many kids trying to make it in the sport.
“But then I saw him train, and I realised he’s different. At just 18, he has a goal, he’s focused, and he’s smart about his training. He’s got more passion than I had at his age.”
Superbon is himself a decorated world champion with a 116-36 record, and aiming to add the Muay Thai belt to his collection in a rematch against Tawanchai in the main event of One 170 in Bangkok on Friday.
So when the current ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion praises Ghazali’s work ethic and dedication, it is probably worth paying attention.
“He wakes up before me, runs before me, trains before me, and even stays after me. With his patience and passion, I can say Jojo will be a world champion for sure.”
