Liam Harrison knows his ONE Championship career is coming to an end, and has undergone experimental stem cell treatment to ensure he has one fight left in him.
The 38-year-old was expected to clash with John Lineker at ONE Fight Night 18, but a knee injury put an end to that, and the Englishman said he considered retirement when fight camp left him unable to walk for two days.
But a trip to a clinic in Costa Rica helped with the swelling and pain, and now he’s focused on a career-defining clash with Muay Thai legend Seksan Or Kwanmuang, which could be his last in the ring.
In an exclusive interview with the SCMP, Harrison said he had started training for the Lineker bout and everything was fine for the first two weeks, and then “my knee started to ache and it would swell up”.
“For every two days that we were doing good hard training I would have two days where my knee was swollen and I couldn’t really walk,” Harrison said. “You can’t go through a fight camp like that.
