UFC: Conor McGregor and Jake Paul get heated on Twitter after Katie Taylor beats Amanda Serrano
- UFC superstar McGregor takes a shot at Paul after his countrywoman Taylor defeats Serrano by split decision in New York City
- YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul – who is Serrano’s promoter – returns fire by accusing Irishman of being ‘owned’ by UFC boss Dana White
Soon after Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s thrilling boxing match on Saturday night in New York City, combat sports superstars Conor McGregor and Jake Paul did some fighting of their own – on Twitter.
Ireland’s McGregor has long been an ardent supporter of his countrywoman Taylor while the American Paul now serves as Serrano’s promoter.
After Taylor defeated Serrano with a razor-close split decision to defend her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, McGregor took the opportunity to criticise Paul for the outfit he wore to the fight.
McGregor fired off an offensive, expletive laden Tweet that Paul quickly caught wind of, and responded to by reminding McGregor he had a hand in making the Taylor-Serrano fight a reality, and sneaking in a few jabs of his own.
“I’m the one who has done more for fighters than you ever have,” the 25-year-old wrote. “The one who has won five fights in the past two years while you have lost five. The one who isn’t owned by Dana White. The one who made the fight you just watched happen. The one who got your hero Katie Taylor paid.”
McGregor (22-6) is the biggest star in MMA history, and previously held the UFC’s lightweight and featherweight titles.
