Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor wasted no time sharing their thoughts on Dustin Poirier’s loss to Charles Oliveira.
Poirier, 32, challenged Brazil’s Oliveira for the UFC lightweight title in the main event of the stacked UFC 269 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Despite a strong first round, throughout which he hit the champ with some blistering power shots, Poirier was ultimately submitted with a rear-naked choke in the third.
It was a tough setback for the American, who was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in his only previous crack at the undisputed UFC lightweight title.


McGregor and Diaz, however, do not seem to have much sympathy.
Diaz, 36, was first to chime in on Poirier’s loss, questioning how his fellow American was able to score two stoppage victories over McGregor earlier this year.

“How Conor let Dp [Poirier] f*** him up hella times he sucks” Diaz tweeted.
That comment prompted a response from Ireland’s McGregor, 34, who, rather than fire back at Diaz, seemed content to join in on the attack on Poirier.
“You lanky string of p*** he got lumped around and got lucky twice,” McGregor wrote. “That’s it. Is what it is. Embarrassing night for him alright.
“That closed guard game. Wtf was that. Wow! Shocking.”

Poirier has history with both McGregor and Diaz.
The 32-year-old has fought the Irish superstar three times, losing the first fight by first-round knockout and, as Diaz suggested, beating McGregor by stoppage in the second and third fights.
His history with Diaz isn’t quite as significant, but worth mentioning all the same. The pair were briefly booked to fight at UFC 230 in late 2018, but the bout unfortunately fell through. The pair have offered differing accounts of why the fight was cancelled, and have taken plenty of shots at each other since.

With his loss to Oliveira, Poirier (28-7) is back in the loss column after his wins over McGregor and a decision defeat of Dan Hooker.
Diaz (20-13), meanwhile, is riding back-to-back losses to ranked welterweight contenders Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards.
McGregor (22-6), finally, hasn’t fought since his second loss to Poirier, which left him with a broken leg. However, the Irishman recently divulged that he hopes to be back in training by April, and back in the cage soon thereafter.
