UFC 268: Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington get physical after trading trash talk at press conference
- Welterweight challenger pulls no punches in New York, targeting champion Usman’s ‘jailbird’ father
- UFC boss Dana White intervenes as rivals get physical when they come face to face in New York
Thursday’s UFC 268 pre-fight press conference was the chaotic and profanity-riddled spectacle most viewers anticipated, thanks primarily to welterweight arch-rivals Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
UFC 268 goes down on Saturday night inside New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden. Usman, the UFC’s reigning welterweight champion and top pound-for-pound fighter, will defend his title against Covington, MMA’s most controversial trash-talker, in the card’s main event.
This will mark the second time the two welterweights have fought, after “The Nigerian Nightmare” scored a fifth-round TKO over Covington in a back-and-forth battle in December 2019.
The pair carried plenty of animosity into that first fight, and their relationship has seemingly soured even more in the time since.
“Hey ‘Marty’, is your daddy the jailbird coming Saturday night?” Covington said early in the press conference. “I got a hookup with law enforcement. If you want to call his parole officer, I’ll make sure he can come on Saturday night.”
