ONE Championship: Bibiano Fernandes insists he can help Demetrious Johnson topple Adriano Moraes
- ‘Every time I wasn’t training together with DJ, when I wasn’t in his camp, he lost,’ says ONE bantamweight champ
- ‘If you have nobody to push you, it’s very difficult,’ adds Fernandes – ‘you can be in the best shape but if the mindset is not there you will lose’
Bibiano Fernandes has said he feels his absence from Demetrious Johnson’s training camp contributed to “Mighty Mouse” losing to ONE Championship flyweight king Adriano Moraes.
The American former UFC champ suffered a second-round TKO defeat at ONE on TNT I in April, getting knocked out for the first time in his career at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
But ONE bantamweight champion Fernandes believes he can help his training partner Johnson solve the puzzle presented by his fellow Brazilian Moraes in a rematch.
“I don’t think there will be a rematch right now because it was a very clean loss, second round,” Fernandes told SCMP MMA. “But I’ll tell you something, every time when I wasn’t training together with DJ, he lost. Every time I wasn’t helping in his camp, he lost.
“First he lost to Henry Cejudo, now he lost to Moraes. The two reasons, first I was busy I was in Brazil, this one because of the coronavirus I couldn’t help in his camp.
