Nine and a half months ago, Jorge Masvidal lay down on the floor of a sauna wrapped head to toe in towels as he pushed his endurance to the limit to cut 20 pounds in six days.

“Gamebred” had just flown halfway around the world to take a UFC 251 welterweight title fight against Kamaru Usman in Abu Dhabi on a week’s notice, too.

“It was rough. But I did it. I get s*** done,” Masvidal said after weighing in on Fight Island. “I’m hurting though, initially during the weight cut, but now it’s all behind me. I made the weight.”

This time there was no hurting. This time there was a full training camp – the reason the 36-year-old American says he can defeat Usman the second time round, after “The Nigerian Nightmare” took a dominant unanimous decision on Fight Island last July.

The problem is Masvidal (35-14) is putting his neck on he line. This is his moment of truth – lose to Usman (18-1), as all of the champ’s 12 opponents in the UFC have done, and there won’t be another shot at the title.
