Jorge Masvidal certainly got into it with Kamaru Usman at a back-and-forth UFC 261 press conference on Thursday.
UFC welterweight champ Usman (18-1) is the heavy favourite again going into Saturday night’s main event, having dominated their first encounter last July, but “Gamebred” (35-14) is promising to shock the world on a full camp.
“Not having to cut 20 pounds in six days means a lot to me,” Masvidal said. “I will bring that title right back to Miami. All the energy I wasted on cutting weight is going to be spinning and putting a finish on them.”
Both men are happy to have the fans back in attendance, with 15,000 set to pack a sold-out VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
“They want violence,” Masvidal said of the fans. “They don’t cheer for me because I’m so good-looking or the food that I eat, that’s not why they cheer for me. They cheer for me because I give everybody their hard-earned money.
“I come in here to perform and bring the violence that they crave. And that’s the only reason I got all these fans behind me. I’m gonna whoop your ass all by myself, I don’t need nobody.”
