UFC: Impa Kasanganay gets contract and a fight in 11 days with Dana White’s Contender Series win
- Kasanganay will face Maki Pitolo next week after impressing in unanimous decision win over Anthony Adams
- ‘He has potential. He’s agreed to fight on the Edgar vs Munhoz card, so he can answer my questions then. Welcome to the UFC,’ says White
Impa Kasanganay didn’t just do enough to earn a UFC contract on Tuesday’s Dana White’s Contender Series – he also got himself a fight in 11 days’ time.
American middleweight prospect Kasanganay (7-0) opened up season four’s week two card with a unanimous decision win (29-27, 29-27, 29-27) over Anthony Adams (8-2).
Many thought he had deserved a contract based on his performance on the show last season, the unblemished 26-year-old saying it was “the only time winning hurt”. UFC president White still had some reservations this time around, but said he was in a generous mood after returning from a much-needed holiday, and gave contracts to all five winners.
“It was a tough one. I love decisive finishes, make me not say ‘no’ to you. Leave no doubt about it,” White said.
“Impa, it was his second time here. The kid’s an athlete, 26 years old coming into his prime. I think he has potential. There’s questions. Apparently he’s agreed to fight August 22 on the [Frankie] Edgar vs [Pedro] Munhoz card, so he can answer my questions then. Welcome to the UFC.”
