You can’t accuse Bi Nguyen of lacking in confidence.
The 30-year-old (professional record five wins, four losses) faces Stamp Fairtex on Friday’s One Championship “Masters of Fate” card in Manila, in what is surely her toughest test yet in the atomweight division.
“So I’ve heard,” the former star of hit reality television show Survivor told the South China Morning Post, smiling, at the City of Dreams’ Grand Ballroom.
Stamp is a two-sport champion already in One with kick-boxing and Muay Thai titles who is looking to make it a hat-trick with an MMA crown.
The 22-year-old Stamp has had only two bouts in professional MMA but has won both, and her most recent – a third-round submission of India’s Asha Roka in August – saw her put a marker down in the division. It presents a fearsome challenge, but Nguyen doesn’t think it has come too soon for her.
