UFC 244: Jorge Masvidal calls out Canelo – ‘I could make it 1-1 MMA versus boxing’
- ‘Gamebred’ challenges new WBO light heavyweight champion after seemingly winning Saturday night’s pay-per-view war
- ‘It’s just fate. I’m fighting today, he’s fighting today. I heard we killed him,’ Masvidal says
The record for boxing versus MMA stands at 1-0 in boxing’s favour, after Floyd Mayweather dealt with Conor McGregor in 2017. But Jorge Masvidal wants to change that.
“I’m the most competitive person this whole company’s ever seen,” Masvidal said at the UFC 244 post-event press conference, after beating Nate Diaz for the “BMF” title in Saturday night’s main event.
“Gamebred” underlined his status as one of the UFC’s top-tier stars at Madison Square Garden, after a whirlwind 2019 which has seen him rise from journeyman welterweight fighter to a must-see man-handler.
“I don’t want nothing to take my greatness,” he said. “I want to send people to another dimension, that’s the type of artwork I like to do. We’re gonna rematch [with Nate Diaz]. I’m open to the money, he’s a money fight.
“If Canelo [Alvarez] wants to get his a** kicked that’s a fight I’ll take. I’m here to get the biggest cheques possible. Nate is in the future for a fact. If it’s next year, or the year after, we’re gonna do it.”
