Hong Kong draw Asia triathlon blank as star laments ‘pretty mediocre result’
Cade Wright delivers honest verdict despite delivering best city finish, while Nick Yip was sixth in men’s race after rivals’ late burst

Cade Wright lamented a “pretty mediocre result” on Saturday after she finished fifth in the women’s under-23 race, as Hong Kong drew a blank on the opening day of the CBB International Asia Triathlon Junior and U23 Championships on sun-drenched Central Harbourfront.
Tallulah Wright came home ninth, acknowledging that losing ground on the swim had left her “in no man’s land” and out of podium contention. Nick Yip Tak-long was “a bit disappointed” after his sixth place in the men’s race.
The indomitable Park Ga-yeon of South Korea claimed the women’s crown for the third straight year, while men’s honours went to Takuto Oshima, the runner-up last year, after he pipped Kim Taegi in a thrilling dash for the line.
The Wright sisters and Yip will have one more shot at glory on Sunday when they try to regain the mixed relay title they won in 2024, probably alongside Sean Yip Tsz-hin, the second best Hong Kong men’s under-23 individual performer in 20th.
“It’s a pretty mediocre result for me … it’s a big event and I really wanted a good outcome,” said Cade Wright.
“It’s so early in the season and my body is getting going again.”
