Yeung at heart: head of National Games Office eyes role as athlete after retirement
The 64-year-old Yeung Tak-keung plans to travel to play sports and compete in handball at the World Masters Games in Kansai, Japan, in 2027

With a second retirement from the government looming, National Games Coordination Office chief Yeung Tak-keung is ready to get back to playing sport instead of organising events when he leaves office in March.
Speaking to the Post, the 64-year-old, a keen handball and squash player, said once he had retired, he expected to travel to play the sports he loves.
“I am going to play a lot of sports, not only in Hong Kong, but also to travel around and play sports,” he said. “I want to play in some veteran squash tournaments, both around Asia and in Europe.
“I am never done playing sports. I’m someone who loves to travel and play sports so much; I’ll never get enough of it.”
A former local handball league winner and South China Athletic Association (SCAA) team captain, Yeung said he and his former teammates played in open tournaments under the name SCAA veterans, reaching the semi-finals in 2016 and 2017.

And his competitive spirit still burns, with Yeung aiming to compete at the World Masters Games in Japan in 2027.
