Hong Kong crowned a new sporting superstar on Monday as the brilliant Ceci Lee Sze-wing won her third gold medal of a personally phenomenal National Games.
Already the road race and Madison champion, cyclist Lee kept her cool in a frenzied Hong Kong Velodrome to claim the blue-riband omnium prize.
Also the road race champion from 2021, Lee became the first Hongkonger to own four China Games golds and the first athlete from the city to win three in a single edition.
With the newest additions to her collection draped around her neck, Lee told the Post: “I am really excited, I never thought about three gold medals. My biggest target was the omnium, it’s my favourite competition.
“Herve [Dagorne, head coach] said anything more was a bonus after the road race. I calmed down and everything came easy.”

Showing no signs of fatigue less than 24 hours after storming to Madison victory with Chloe Leung Wing-yee, Lee thrillingly attacked on the closing lap to win the omnium's opening scratch race discipline.
