Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a major sporting occasion without one of our live blogs, and after a sedate start the National Games kicked into high gear on Wednesday.

There was more sport than you could shake a non-dolphin-like mascot at, and some of Hong Kong’s best entered the fray.

In no particular order, the city’s athletes were involved in badminton, baseball, swimming, dressage and the small matter of the rugby sevens, which got started at Kai Tak Stadium.

Swimmers Adam Mak Sai-ting and Siobhan Haughey were in the pool early for the men’s 50m breaststroke and women’s 200m freestyle respectively, then later raced in their evening semi-finals.

We also discovered who Coleman Wong Chak-lam and other tennis stars will play in their first-round matches this week – but not Zheng Qinwen, who withdrew.

So strap in and recap our live coverage of day three.
