Andy Lau, Joey Yung among Hong Kong stars performing at National Games opening
Opening ceremony will showcase regional cultural elements using advanced technologies, including AI and virtual reality

The National Games’ opening ceremony on Sunday evening will showcase regional cultural elements using advanced technologies, including AI and virtual reality, with Cantopop stars Andy Lau Tak-wah and Joey Yung Cho-yee among performers.
The 75-minute ceremony will be staged at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Centre in Guangzhou starting at 8pm, displaying the cultural heritage and integrated development of the Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong is a co-host of the Games with Guangdong province and Macau.
“The ceremony incorporates the shared Lingnan culture of three places into the cultural and sports performances, integrating many shared memories of the Greater Bay Area into the costumes, music and choreography,” said Wang Xi, vice-president of the organising committee.
He also revealed on Saturday that many performances in the ceremony would be integrated with the latest technology, such as robots and virtual reality (VR), combining traditions with innovative and varied performance styles to attract a younger audience.

AIGC (artificial intelligence generated content) and VR technologies would be used in lion dances, while holographic projections would be used in Yingge dances, a form of Chinese folk dance popular in the region, state news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.
