Olympian says Asian Championships triumph after victory in world’s B final has him on course for competitive showing in Guangdong

Chiu Hin-chun believes his gold medal at the Asian Championships has proved his readiness for the National Games rowing events, which begin in Guangdong on Thursday.
A confidence boosting triumph at the regional competition in the lightweight single sculls has the Olympian dreaming of more glory at the Guangdong International Rowing Centre.
And while the 31-year-old’s focus will be on his main discipline, Chiu will also compete in the mixed doubles of a beach rowing event alongside younger teammate Cheung Yuen-shan.
“The standard at the National Games is going to be very high,” Chiu said. “I had to win at the Asian Championships to prove my competitiveness at the Games.
