Yip Ka-yu is set to return to BC Rangers after the goalkeeper had his rape conviction overturned in June.
In October 2023, Yip was sentenced to five years and three months in prison after he was convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl.
The Court of Appeal determined that Yip had been left with no chance of receiving a not-guilty verdict, because the trial judge did not mention to the jury that he might have been under the “genuine but mistaken belief” that the complainant agreed to have sex with him.
His conviction and sentence were quashed, leaving the 28-year-old free to resume his football career. It has been reported that Yip will sign for Rangers, where he spent two years after joining from Kwai Tsing in 2015.

A BC Rangers spokesman told the Post that the club “don’t have any comment on this issue at the moment”, and asked that questions be directed to management when the club host a pre-season media day next Friday.
The German website Transfermarkt, which documents player transfers and statistics, listed Yip as a new arrival at Rangers last Friday.
At the time of his conviction, Yip was playing for Third Division side Tsun Tat. His last Premier League appearance was for Yuen Long in a 1-1 draw at Happy Valley in January 2020. He has also previously played for Lee Man.
Separately, Hong Kong head coach Ashley Westwood has included Michael Udebuluzor in a preliminary 36-man squad for next month’s King’s Cup in Thailand.
A proposed move for Udebuluzor to China League One club Suzhou Dongwu collapsed after controversial comments he made following Hong Kong’s 1-0 defeat by China at last month’s East Asian Football Championship.
A local football association release listed the striker as still belonging to VfR Mannheim, but the 21-year-old has spelled out his desire to quit the German club.
Westwood has also named exciting 20-year-old left-back Jeremy Tsang Lok-to, who is playing university football in the United States, in his longlist.
Defender Alex Jojo, of Shanghai Port, is among 13 mainland-based players in the party. Centre-back Leon Jones, who is hunting for a club after leaving Kitchee, has been selected. There is no place for Jay Haddow, the versatile Kitchee 21-year old who acquired his passport last month.
Hong Kong, who climbed to No 147 in the latest Fifa rankings, play 58th-ranked Iraq in Kanchanaburi on September 4, with Thailand meeting Fiji in the other semi-final on the same day. The final and third-place play-off are scheduled for September 7.
The two Hong Kong clubs in this season’s AFC Champions League 2, meanwhile, have been handed tricky group-stage draws.
Local champions Tai Po will face Beijing Guoan, currently fourth in the Chinese Super League, plus Australian A-League club Macarthur FC and Cong An Hanoi from Vietnam.
Eastern, the FA Cup winners, have been presented with a tall order to improve on their performance in the competition last season, when they won one of their six matches.
They will play Gamba Osaka of Japan, Thai club Ratchaburi and Vietnam’s Nam Dinh, who did the double over Lee Man last term.
Tai Po will launch their first continental campaign since 2019 against Macarthur at Mong Kok Stadium on September 18.
Eastern begin with a visit to two-time Japanese champions Gamba Osaka on September 17.
Alex Chu Chi-kwong has left his role as head coach of Kitchee’s women’s team. Sources have told the Post that the 64-year-old, who led Kitchee’s men to five titles, will be appointed director of football at newly-promoted Eastern District.
