Decorated Hong Kong badminton mixed-doubles pair Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet, who reached the Japan Open quarter-finals on Thursday, said the Asian Games in Nagoya next year would be their final tournament together.

Tse, who had a tumour removed from her pelvic cavity earlier this year, renewed her long-term partnership with Tang just two weeks before the Asian Championships in Ningbo in April.

There, the left-handed duo won the first continental title of their career, before adding two more podium finishes on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) tour in Thailand and Singapore.

However, the end appears to be looming for the pair, who have also won two world championship bronze medals and one Asian Games silver medal between them.

“There were three important tournaments for us this year, with the regional championships being the first one,” said the 30-year-old Tang.

“There are also the World Championships and the National Games; these three tournaments were actually the reasons we got back together.
