Hong Kong’s top men’s epeeist Cedric Ho Wai-hang says he is still digesting his upwards trajectory of late, having continuously written his name into the history books for the past 14 months.

A historic individual bronze medal at the Asian Games on September 26 last year was followed by another bronze with his teammates – also a first for the city’s men in this weapon at the Asiad – at the Hangzhou Dianzi University Gymnasium three days later.

After qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games, Ho beat teammate Ng Ho-tin in Kuwait City in June to record a first one-two finish at the Asian Championships for the city’s men’s epeeists, before adding a historic World Cup bronze in Vancouver last month, in only the second tournament of the 2024-25 season.

“I am still digesting the process,” the 28-year-old right-hander said. “I had heard about late booms of athletes but never thought I would be one of them.

“Of course, I don’t feel this is already the best I can do – I want to take a crack at the top.

“Such results have helped a lot in my confidence because I proved I could do it at bigger tournaments, so I will feel less pressure going forward and just need to stay cool and fence.”
