Asian Games 2023: Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka-long has ‘no regrets’ despite early exit in men’s badminton
- The 29-year-old’s defeat comes at hands of Malaysia’s Lee Zii-jia who triumphed 2-1 in men’s singles match on Monday
- ‘I was able to perform to my standard in Hangzhou, though it didn’t get reflected in the results,’ world No 18 says

An opening round loss for badminton player Angus Ng Ka-long meant a premature Asian Games exit, but the Hongkonger maintained that he left with “no regrets”.
The 29-year-old’s defeat came at the hands of Malaysia’s Lee Zii-jia who triumphed 2-1 in the men’s singles match on Monday.
For Ng, who also lost in the round of 16 in the men’s team event against Thailand, the defeat at the Binjiang Gymnasium signalled the end of his efforts in Hangzhou.
But regardless of who was standing on the other side of the net, Ng felt the loss was not dictated by an unlucky draw.
“We can’t control the draw,” Ng said. “If I am to progress, I have to defeat whoever is in front of me, so the draw didn’t affect anything.”
With only eight seeded players in the men’s singles main draw, all other players were drawn randomly which pit the Hongkonger against Lee, ranked two places above him as the world No 16.
