Turkey secured their third Volleyball Nations League win in Hong Kong, and their sixth this season, beating the Dominican Republic 3-1 in Hung Hom on Sunday.
Melissa Vargas, who played as opposite spiker, was instrumental in her side’s win. The 23-year-old was Turkey’s highest scorer, with a game-high 29 points, of which 26 were in attack.
Jineiry Martinez was the top scorer for the Queens of the Caribbean, with 19 points.
“It’s very important to us, because we want to try to win as many matches as we can,” Turkey captain Eda Erdem said following the victory.
“The Dominican Republic are a really good team, they have very good attackers and know how to play volleyball. They are smart. So it was a very important match for us.”
Turkey were on course for a comfortable victory before surrendering the third set to their opponents on Sunday – and Erdem stressed there was room for improvement.
