Siobhan Haughey’s golden run ended in Toronto as Summer McIntosh breaks records at Fina World Cup meet
- Canadian teen claims 400m freestyle gold in 3:52.80, setting world cup and world junior records
- Multiple Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky takes silver, with Haughey claiming bronze

Siobhan Haughey’s golden run in the Fina World Cup series came to a screeching halt in Toronto, as Canadian teen Summer McIntosh won gold setting two world records in the process.
Facing a far stronger field at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre than last week in Berlin, where Haughey bagged three gold medals, the Hongkonger could only manage bronze this time, with multiple Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky taking silver.
The 16-year-old McIntosh set a new world cup record and world junior record with her time of 3 minutes and 52.80 seconds, but was pushed all the way by American Ledecky who held the lead until the last 25 metres.
Ledecky came home in 3:52.88, while Haughey touched the wall in 3:58.50, with the three medallists the only ones in the race to break four minutes.
Haughey, a double Olympic silver medallist, competes in her favourite event on Saturday, the 200m free, where she will be defending her world record against the attentions of Ledecky.
