Veteran cyclist Ko Siu-wai will stick to his plan of ending his career in Hangzhou – hopefully on a high note – despite the 2022 Asian Games being pushed back to next year.

At 34, the oldest member of the Hong Kong men’s team finished second in Saturday’s individual time trial at the National Championships in Bride’s Pool Road, as the domestic flagship event returned for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Winner Vincent Lau Wan-yau finished the 15-kilometre course in 20 minutes and 8.54 seconds, with Ko more than a minute behind at 21:13.04.

Third place went to another Hong Kong team member, Ng Pak-hang, who finished narrowly behind Ko in 21:15.33.

Sport Institute scholarship holder Ko was not too disappointed by losing out to his younger teammate, saying 25-year-old Lau has made great improvements in time trials since last year.

“We did not make any special preparation for the road race National Championships as it was not in our original plan,” said Ko.
