Hong Kong swim star Siobhan Haughey put in another fine performance for Energy Standard in the International Swimming League at their second meet of the season, earning MVP honours as the team won once more.
Held on Thursday and Friday in Naples, Italy, last year’s runners-up were pitted against the Iron, New York Breakers and the London Roar.
The 23-year-old had a solid day one that saw her win the 400m freestyle in 4:02.59, help the team to victory in the 4x100m free relay in 3:31.23 with Haughey swimming the fastest leg in 51.65 seconds – and come second to teammate Sarah Sjostrom in the 50m free.
Tokyo 2020 double Olympic silver medallist Haughey then started off day two with a win in the women’s 100m freestyle. Haughey led from the outset and finished in 51.64 seconds, just ahead of Sjostrom.
That was the Hong Kong swimmer’s fifth ISL win over the distance and the second this season but there was more to come.


Haughey showed her dominance at the 200m free later in the day, which she won in 1:52.82, well ahead of the Iron’s Barbora Seemanova’s second-placed time of 1:55.08. The huge win saw Haughey win Energy Standard a massive 30 points.
Former Michigan Wolverines star Haughey then swam in the women’s 50m skins, which Energy Standard had chosen to be freestyle.

She and teammate Sjostrom both finished in 23.98 seconds in the first skins race with Haughey (24.31) second to the Swede (24.09) in the second race and Sjostrom winning their final.
Despite that Haughey was named the match MVP after clocking up 78 points over the two-day meet, just half a point more than Sjostrom’s 77.5.
Energy Standard romped to victory on 640.5 points, well clear of London Roar’s 436.5 in second. The team compete again on September 18-19 when they face the Los Angeles Current, London Roar and the Tokyo Frog Kings.
