Falling short: Hong Kong fail to match London 2012 medal tally as Rio Paralympic campaign ends in disappointment

Hong Kong finished with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Rio Paralympic Games, falling well short of their achievements in London four years ago when they returned home with three gold, three silver and six bronze medals.

On the final day of swimming competition at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Tang Wai-lok and Choi Wa-kit both failed to reach the final in the men’s 200 metre individual medley (class SM14).

Tang, who earlier won a gold in the 200 metre freestyle, clocked two minutes and 22.14 seconds to finish 13th overall, while Choi came 10th in 2:20.64.

It was a disappointing result for Tang, who registered a qualifying time of 2:16.81, but his achievements in Rio still earned him the role of flag bearer for Hong Kong in the closing ceremony.

Hong Kong have completed all their events in Rio, with traditional stronghold wheelchair fencing failing to yield a gold medal for the first time since the 2004 Athens Paralympics.
