Despite finishing her second round with back-to-back birdies, Hong Kong amateur Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching made an early exit from the Nippon Ham Ladies Classic in Hokkaido on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who is on the verge of qualifying for the Olympic Games, added a two-over-par 74 to her opening 75 to miss the cut in the ¥100 million (HK$7.71 million) LPGA of Japan event by three strokes.

Lee Ji-hee, Kaori Ohe and amateur Sakura Koiwai lead the way on six-under-par heading into Sunday’s final round.

Chan is currently 55th in the Olympic ranking, with the top 60 players earning their places in Brazil, which will mark golf’s return to the Games for the first time since 1904, once the qualifying period ends on Monday.

“I missed a few really good chances over the final nine holes which could have made the difference, but my game was pretty average this week,” admitted the former Diocesan Girls’ School student, who stunned the professionals by winning the second edition of the Hong Kong Ladies Open last month.
