Cool and confident: Wang Kun races to victory in Asics Hong Kong 10k Challenge
Macau-based mainland runner relishes cooler conditions; marathon star Yiu Kit-ching wins the women's section for fourth straight year
The Macau-based mainlander led home the 6,000 starters in Sunday's Asics Hong Kong 10k Challenge with consummate ease, and said he now intends to defend his half-marathon title in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon event in January.
The 23-year-old ran well last season and claimed the prestigious Mizuno Hong Kong Half-marathon title in December before going on to win the Standard Chartered title a few weeks later. He placed fourth in the Asics 10K Challenge behind eventual winner Thomas Kiprotich.
Wang completed a degree in physical education at Macau Polytechnic during the summer, and now works as a physical education teacher at a middle school in Macau.
"The cooler weather was quite good for distance running today," said Wang, who hails from Jiangsu province, and who crossed the line in 32 minutes and 16 seconds on Sunday.
