Hong Kong triathletes Eric Wong Hui-wai and Law Leong-tim claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively in the men’s elite race at the ITU Continental Cup in La Paz, Mexico on Sunday.
Both athletes chose to compete in the elite open event rather than the under-23 race, and worked hard on the run to distance themselves from the chasing pack.

With just 200m to go, Wong sprinted ahead of teammate Law to claim the silver medal. Wong, 19, was one of just 10 Hong Kong athletes recently awarded the Panasonic Sports Scholarship for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a scholarship presented by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
“The boys followed the race plan perfectly today with both getting off to a great start in the swim,” said coach Neil Harvey. “They showed great maturity in this race.”
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Solomon Kipyego Ketter failed in his attempt to break his own Hong Kong all-comers record in the ANS Sha Tin 10km Classic Riverside Race on Sunday.
The talented athlete posted a winning time of 29 minutes and 38 seconds to comfortably defend his title from compatriot Gideon Kipkemboi Kosggei. Ketter ran a time of 29:38 over the flat and fast Sha Tin course, but with Koseggei trailing in more than two minutes adrift, he was left to make the pace on his own, and failed in his quest to better his record.
