'Big Dolphin' Prom Meesawat bags bubbly bonus
Thai player is over the moon at winning a magnum of champagne for a hole-in-one at the par-three second hole, 'The Trap'
Smiling Thai Prom Meesawat had another "nice memory" to cherish from the Hong Kong Open after he made a hole-in-one yesterday.
The burly and jovial Prom aced The Trap, the par-three 149-yard second hole to win a bottle of bubbly, adding to his list of feats at Fanling.
"I like playing here. Last year I had a memorable tournament making it to the play-off against Jimenez and now this. This is my fifth hole-in-one in tournament play and my eighth as a golfer and it is always nice to do it," said Prom.
Nicknamed the "Big Dolphin", Prom came within a whisker of winning the tournament last year when he forced his way into a three-way play-off with Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Stuart Manley of Wales after sinking two eagles in a fine last round. But a poor approach shot at the first play-off hole ended his hopes.
"Even though I didn't win, that was a nice memory to have and now this hole-in-one. I only wish it came at the 8th hole where a BMW is on offer. Maybe I will do it this weekend," smiled Prom optimistically after finishing on 66 to total three-under 167, six shots off the pace.
As for the magnum of champagne, that would have gone down well last night: "I plan to drink it with my Thai friends tonight," said the larger-than-life Prom.
While the Thai was smiling, the same could not be said for Hong Kong hopefuls Timothy Tang and Roderick Staunton who both missed the cut after disastrous second rounds. Tang carded a six-over 77, while Staunton's round of 79 included a triple-bogey and two double bogeys.
