National Games golfers to face harder course than Hong Kong Open field did: Taichi Kho
City’s top player, who will compete alongside three teammates, doubts ‘we’ll see a 27-under this week’ at Hong Kong Golf Club
The National Games golf tournament gets under way in Hong Kong on Thursday, with Taichi Kho expecting players to face a tougher test than some of the world’s best did two weeks ago.
Softer fairways and greens created prime scoring conditions at the Link Hong Kong Open, which Tom McKibbin won with a record total of 27-under-par.
And Kho, who will play alongside Matthew Cheung, Jason Hak Shun-yat and Jeffrey Shen Wang-ngai at the Hong Kong Golf Club, said he did not believe there would be a repeat performance despite there being “a lot of good players here”.
“I think, as players, we kind of expected the Hong Kong Open would beat up the course a little bit,” Kho said. “But, you know, two weeks later, we come back and it’s in pristine shape. It’s a lot firmer, it’s a lot faster than it was two weeks ago.
