Greg Norman officially ends time with LIV Golf, hails ‘movement that changed game’
Australian was replaced as CEO by Scott O’Neil at the start of the year, and departure was only a matter of time
Greg Norman has officially brought his time with LIV to a close, four years after upending the world of golf with the team competition.
The Australian was replaced as CEO by Scott O’Neil at the start of the year, and his exit was only a matter of time after that.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Norman announced his departure and said he was reflecting on “four unforgettable years … with nothing but gratitude, pride and achievement”.
The 70-year-old was the very public face of a competition that fractured the game, dividing players, tours, sponsors and fans over its unique 54-hole approach that in its early iterations was described as “golf, but louder”.
“Together, we built a movement that changed the game globally,” Norman wrote. “We created opportunities for both players and fans and broadened the ecosystem of golf. We truly globalised the game and expanded golf’s reach to fans around the world.”
In a statement, LIV Golf said it was grateful to Norman for his “tremendous contributions” and thanked him for the “pivotal role he played in shaping LIV Golf’s foundation and early success”.
