LIV Golf Hong Kong: Sergio Garcia’s pick-me plea to Ryder Cup captain Donald after double win
Spaniard Sergio Garcia shoots a seven-under-par 63 to win by three shots, leads Fireballs to second successive team title

Sergio Garcia strolled to his second individual LIV Golf victory on Sunday, led Fireballs to their second team title in two weeks in the process, and then issued a pick-me plea to European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.
Garcia carded a seven-under-par 63 to finish three shots clear of Stinger’s Dean Burmester, and was in complete control of the tournament from the moment he rolled in a monster putt for eagle on the par-five third.
Burmester, meanwhile, played a large part in getting his team to within sight of a play-off against Fireballs, but in the end they fell one stroke short on 36 under. The South African’s 62 was good enough for second on 15 under.
The steely determination with which Garcia conquered Hong Kong Golf Club will only have been of interest to Donald, and the Spaniard said he hoped the Ryder Cup captain had been watching.
“We’ve been in touch, so I know that he’s keeping an eye,” Garcia said. “The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf, and I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team, and hopefully he will think I’m good enough for it.”

The fact that Garcia, who won LIV Golf Andalucia last year, also held off Phil Mickelson will not have gone unnoticed, although the American’s challenge largely disappeared in a succession of missed birdie putts, and a six-under 64 left him alone in third on 14 under overall.
