Excitement, anticipation and a certain amount of expectation will be flowing through Ginnie Ding’s veins when she steps onto the first tee in Morocco on Thursday.
The 22-year-old will start her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour in the Lalla Meryem Cup, the next step in a two-year journey that has taken her from college golfer to fully fledged professional.
And with a 30-tournament season ahead, Ding, the first Hongkonger to earn full LET status, wants to make a fast start to life on tour so she can earn her way into the bigger events, such as the national opens in Scotland and Ireland, and the lucrative Aramco Team Series with its US$5 million in prize money.
“It’ll be my first time playing so much consecutively,” Ding said. “I don’t even know what it’s going to be like, but I’m super-excited.”

That season begins with, hopefully, four days on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar es Salaam, in a field that includes defending champion Bronte Law, South Africa’s Nicole Garcia and Singapore’s Shannon Tan.
