The year’s penultimate International Series event got under way in Qatar on Wednesday, with the order of merit still wide open and with it a potential spot on the 2025 LIV Golf League for the winner.

Ben Campbell’s second-place finish in Hong Kong last week has him firmly in contention, while leader John Catlin, who has 900 points – 83 more than Campbell – will still fancy his chances of taking top spot when the season concludes at the Saudi International.

But while the Asian Tour pair are fighting for a first shot at LIV, it is equally possible no one will make the step up, given the number of current players from the team circuit also in with a chance of topping the rankings.

Patrick Reed’s triumph at Fanling lifted him to seventh, just ahead of Torque GC’s Carlos Ortiz, who won the season-opening International Series Oman in February.

David Puig (Fireballs GC), Caleb Surratt (Legion XIII) and Louis Oosthuizen (Stinger GC) all have a shot, although none are better placed than Reed’s 4Aces teammate Peter Uihlein, who is fourth and 279 points behind the leader.

Some 450 points are on offer to the winner in Qatar, but it is the 1,000 up for grabs in Riyadh next week that could turn everything on its head.
