Hong Kong amateur Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching has vowed to come back stronger after carding a second-round 78 to miss the cut by two strokes at the Korea Women’s Open Golf Championship on Friday.

The 22-year-old, who had been hoping to boost her chances of making it to the Olympic Games with a good result at the Bears Best Cheongna Club in Incheon, will head to the China LPGA Tour’s Kumho Tire Ladies Open in Shandong province at the end of month for her final event before the qualifying period ends on July 11.

Chan, who won last week’s Hong Kong Ladies Open in dramatic style, is currently ranked No 58 in the Olympic rankings, with the top-60 making the elite field in Rio.

“I wasn’t as sharp with my irons as I needed to be – you have to be really precise around this course,” said Chan, who received All-American honours last month following a standout season playing US college golf for University of Southern California.

“This is the strongest professional event I’ve ever played in and it’s been a great experience,” continued the former Diocesan Girls’ School student, who at No 13 in the women’s amateur rankings is the highest-placed golfer from Asia-Pacific.
