Oscar Piastri led from start to finish to win the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday as McLaren completed a dominant one-two with Lando Norris second.
George Russell was third in a Mercedes with world champion Max Verstappen snatching fourth place after a late pass on Charles Leclerc.
Piastri’s win denied Norris a third victory in a row, including last year’s season-ender, but left champions McLaren unbeaten in two races so far this year.
Lewis Hamilton completed a good weekend for Ferrari after his sprint win on Saturday – ahead of Piastri – by posting the fastest lap at Shanghai International Circuit to finish sixth.
Australian Piastri, who had been running second a week ago in Melbourne’ season-opener before a late spin, said: “It’s been an incredible weekend, the car has been pretty mega.

“I think today was a bit of a surprise with how the tyres behaved but I’m super proud and what I feel like I deserve from last week. Very, very happy.
“I’m very proud of the race we managed to pull off and it wasn’t an easy one going in, I’m proud of the whole team and the weekend I’ve been able to pull off.”
British teammate Norris said: “Tough race … and I don’t think many people expected a one-stop today so that was good.
“Oscar drove well, he was quick the whole race … I tried to get close but in the end I just couldn’t. He deserved the win, he’s driven really well all weekend.
“I’m happy with second, it’s good points. It’s great points for us as a team, with a one-two so a big thanks to everyone in Papaya (McLaren’s colour] – just how we want to do it.
The result sees Norris – on 44 points – increasing his title lead over Verstappen to eight points, but the margins are tight between the Dutchman in second, Russell – also a Briton – in third and Shanghai race winner Piastri in fourth on 34 points.
In the constructors’ standings, champions McLaren are 25 points clear of Mercedes at the top of the standings. Red Bull (36) and Ferrari (35) in third and fourth are separated by one point, while more points in the bag for Williams keeps them in the top five with 12 points.
