Ferrari and Cadillac could hold key to Zhou Guanyu’s F1 future, but he won’t wait forever
Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu has numerous offers from other series, but says he’s prepared to wait two years to return to the grid
Zhou Guanyu is giving himself two years to make it back to the grid in Formula One, before he walks away and takes up an offer to compete in a different series.
The Chinese driver, who lost his seat with Sauber at the end of the 2024 season, has been heavily courted by teams in Formula E, but presently only has eyes for F1, and believes he could get an opportunity to return to the paddock, sooner rather later.
Teams began circling once Zhou and Valtteri Bottas were officially told their time with the Swiss-based outfit, which will become the Audi works team in 2026, was coming to an end.
“The moment I announced my departure, a lot of teams in other series came to me wanting them to drive for them,” Zhou told Formula1.com. “But I feel like 2026 and even next year could be a potential chance to come back in F1.
“I dream to be on this grid, so while there is a chance, I will be here waiting. But it won’t be long. I wont wait more than two years. It’s not a deadline, but it’s the timing I put for myself for now.
“It’s not a fixed time, but it’s a time I want to make sure if I can do it or not. If something doesn’t happen, I’ll go somewhere else. I love racing. To be competing for victories is what I dream of. But the priority is to be in Formula One.”
