With each passing match, it’s becoming more difficult to justify any type of interest in the English Premier League title “race”.
At this point, Liverpool would need a total collapse – and even then for Arsenal to become relentless.
Still, it’s at Anfield where we start our Wednesday night round up.
Same old Moyes
No matter the form, David Moyes plus Everton at Anfield can never equal victory.

Once again it was Liverpool who prevailed as Diogo Jota’s second-half goal gave the hosts a 1-0 derby win which restored their 12-point lead over Arsenal at the summit.
It means the Reds need only 13 points from the 24 remaining to win just their second title in the Premier League era.
Elsewhere, the race for the top five is getting more intense with wins for Manchester City, Newcastle United – who have a game in hand – and Aston Villa.
The latter saw Marcus Rashford score for the second match in a row as they beat Brighton 3-0 away from home to leapfrog the Seagulls and move into seventh place – two off the Carabao Cup winners in fifth.
City, meanwhile, eased to a 2-0 victory over Leicester to move back up to fourth with Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush on the scoresheet.
Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Brentford continued their march back to the Uefa Champions League, while sixth-place Chelsea host Tottenham on Thursday at 3am, Hong Kong time.
Elsewhere, Ipswich got their first league win of 2025 as Bournemouth’s rotten form continued. The Tractor Boys won 2-1 on the South Coast but remain nine points from safety.
And finally: Southampton’s bid to avoid finishing the campaign as the worst Premier League side in history improved as they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace.
They now need two points to better Derby County’s record low of 11 points from 2007-08.
Euro Cup round-up

Barcelona set up a Copa del Rey final meeting with Real Madrid as they beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 in their semi-final second leg.
It wasn’t quite the excitement of the 4-4 first meeting, but it was enough to get the job done thanks to Ferran Torres’ solitary goal.
This will be the first Clasico final since 2014, when Gareth Bale’s solo effort earned Los Blancos a 2-1 win.
In Italy, Hong Kong-bound AC Milan drew 1-1 with city rivals Inter in their semi-final first leg with Tammy Abraham and Hakan Calhanoglou on the scoresheet.
While in Germany, Stuttgart overcame RB Leipzig 3-1 to set up a final meeting with giant-killers Arminia Bielefeld.

Jose Mourinho appeared to pinch the nose of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk after his Fenerbahce team was knocked out of the Turkish Cup in a fiery match.
In footage widely shared on social media, Mourinho appears to reach out from behind his opponent and make contact with his nose. Buruk then falls to the ground holding his face before Mourinho is escorted away.
Three players were sent off in the Istanbul derby at Fenerbahce’s stadium. Galatasaray won 2-1.
“He squeezed my nose from behind while I was going on. There was a slight scratch. Of course, it’s not a very nice and stylish thing,” Buruk said after the quarter-final match. “I won’t exaggerate about it, but it’s not a very stylish thing.”
Galatasaray vice-president Metin Ozturk was not so restrained in his response to a fresh controversy involving the outspoken Mourinho.
“The latest incident is not only an attack on Galatasaray’s coach but also on Turkish football. This is Mourinho, I don’t know where he gets this courage,” he said. “Where in the world can he do this? Where does he think Turkey is?”
Duo to miss out

Away from football, Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu pulled out of next week’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers for their respective teams.
Poland are hosting Switzerland and Ukraine in the round-robin qualifier but Swiatek, who is ranked No 2, said she made the “difficult decision” to skip it.
“I always represent my country with pride. I played everything there was to play for the country last year,” Swiatek said in a statement. “Now it’s time for more balance, focusing on myself and my training.”
Swiatek lost to wild card Alexandra Eala in the Miami Open quarter-finals last week. The five-time grand slam champion had also been given extra security protection at the tournament after being verbally attacked during a practice session by a man who had sent her harassing messages via social media.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association announced that Raducanu has withdrawn. Britain play Germany and the Netherlands in The Hague.
