Liverpool continue Premier League title charge, Forest bash Brighton, Ireland beat England
Mohamed Salah bags double as Reds see off Bournemouth, Forest hit Brighton for seven, Ireland start Six Nations title defence with win
Liverpool survived one of their toughest remaining challenges to win 2-0 at Bournemouth and continue their unerring match towards a 20th English league title.
Bournemouth had already beaten Arsenal and Manchester City at their compact Vitality Stadium this season, and they came into this match after dishing out a 5-0 shoeing to fellow surprise-package Nottingham Forest seven days earlier.
The Cherries suffered a setback when the visitors were awarded a soft 30th-minute penalty after Lewis Cook tangled with Cody Gakpo in the box. Mohamed Salah duly converted from the spot for the seventh time this season. Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier both cracked the post and Alisson saved superbly from Semenyo, but there was no way through for Bournemouth, and Salah applied the coup de grace when he curled home his second goal after 75 minutes.
Liverpool have opened up a nine-point advantage over Arsenal and Forest, in second and third, with the Gunners poised for a home match against Manchester City today.
Seven-up Forest
Odd happenings elsewhere in the Premier League, as Forest recovered from that humbling at Bournemouth to wallop Brighton & Hove Albion 7-0.
