Is the fairy tale over?
Nottingham Forest’s chances of “doing a Leicester” appeared genuine as the only one of challengers to champions-elect Liverpool’s title not to falter in recent weeks.
But their recent unbeaten run was ended in dramatic style, while another previous challenger continued to fall down the table.
Here’s a look at that and the rest of the headlines from while you were sleeping.
One horse race?

Arsenal are now the only side within nine points of runaway English Premier League leaders Liverpool – and they are only two sides who started the day inside the top four to taste victory.
Arne Slot’s side blew Ipswich Town away 4-1 with Cody Gakpo scoring twice. With just one defeat so far this campaign and six points clear of their nearest rivals, who have played a game more, is there really a title race?
If it were perennial champions Manchester City in this situation, I’m not sure anyone would continue to entertain the concept of a “race”.
But second-place Arsenal will see things differently as they came through a tough trip to Wolves with a 1-0 victory, thanks to Riccardo Calafiori’s goal. The match saw both sides pick up a red card.
Forest, though? Well they were hammered 5-0 by men-of-the-moment Bournemouth.
Fresh from their 4-1 win at Newcastle, Dango Ouattara’s hat-trick inspired Andoni Iraola’s side to their latest famous win of the campaign. Third-place Forest are now nine points off Liverpool having played a game more.
Remember when Chelsea were in the race? Well, we can categorically forget that. Their 3-1 defeat to Man City saw them drop to sixth place while, for Pep Guardiola’s side, that’s now six league matches unbeaten.
It had been a nightmare start to the match for the hosts, as debutant Abdukodir Khusanov gifted Chelsea the opener inside three minutes, before Erling Haaland, Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden turned the game around.
Elsewhere, fifth-place Newcastle won 3-1 at Southampton thanks to Alexander Isak’s double, while Everton got a second straight win under David Moyes as they left Brighton with a 1-0 success.
Euro round up

Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid beat Valladolid 3-0 away from home to continue their good recent form.
Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Villarreal allowed Los Blancos to open up a four-point gap at the top of the table.
The big match in Italy saw Napoli hand manager Antonio Conte’s former side, Juventus, their first league defeat of the campaign as Romelu Lukaku scored a penalty for a 2-1 win after debutant Randal Kolo Muani had given the Bianconeri an early lead.
Napoli are first, six points ahead of Inter, who have two games in hand.
Elsewhere, Atalanta came from 2-1 down to beat Cesc Fabregas’ Como.
In Germany, Bayern Munich increased their lead at the top to six points with a 2-1 win at Freiburg as Bayer Leverkusen blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at RB Leipzig.
Managerless Borussia Dortmund were also 2-0 up at home to Werder Bremen, but were pegged back to draw. They dropped to 11th.
Les Bleus’ blues

Home fans at the Perth Sevens enjoyed a Saturday to remember as Australia’s men and women both reached the semi-finals.
The men beat Olympic champions France 24-12 to set up a last-four battle with Cape Town champs, South Africa, who hammered Fiji 19-0.
The other semi-final sees Spain, who knocked out giant-killers Uruguay, face Great Britain’s conquerors, Argentina.
On the women’s side, the hosts ripped through Japan with a 35-0 triumph and will meet Canada in the last four after the Olympic silver medallists beat Brazil 27-5.
England beaten again in India

Tilak Varma’s brilliant 72 not out guided India to a thrilling two-wicket victory over England, handing the hosts a 2-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 International series.
India successfully chased down 166 with four balls to spare after the visitors set a competitive total of 165-9.
Varma single-handedly guided India to 166-8 after they were reduced to 78-5. He hit five sixes and four fours, while Abhishek Sharma (12) and Washington Sundar (26) provided brief resistance. Suryakumar Yadav added some quick boundaries before falling for 12 in the sixth over.
Brydon Carse took three wickets, dismissing Dhruv Jurel, Yadav and Sundar, while Jofra Archer’s costly spell, in which he conceded 60 runs from four overs, did not help England’s cause.
Off the Pace

Victor Wembanyama’s second NBA game in Paris ended in a loss as Tyrese Haliburton’s hot shooting fired the Indiana Pacers to a 136-98 win against the San Antonio Spurs.
In the Bercy Arena where he won the Olympic gold medal with the USA last year, Haliburton poured in 16 points in the third quarter on the way to a 28-point haul that included six three-pointers to carry the Pacers to victory.
Still, Frenchman Wembanyama certainly enjoyed the experience.
Watched by singer and fashion icon Pharrell Williams, the 21-year-old had 20 points after shooting seven from 16 from the field, while Harrison Barnes top scored for the Spurs with 25 points.
“This week was amazing,” Wembanyama said. “I was just seeing my family.
“I’m not trying to get emotional, but everybody did their job to making this week incredible.”
