Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all eyeing Hong Kong games, leading promoter says
Leading promoter talking to host of clubs over summer 2025 Kai Tak Sports Park fixtures, doubts Barcelona would consider Hong Kong visit
A leading promoter has said he could lure some of the biggest football clubs in the world to Hong Kong this summer, despite the controversy surrounding a potential visit from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Paul Kam made the assertion days after Edwin Wong Ho-ting, the CEO of Winman Advertising and Entertainment Group, was arrested in connection with claims he made over securing an agreement for the La Liga club to play at Kai Tak Stadium on July 27.
Talking to the Post before Wong’s arrest, Kam, whose ProEvents Group has attracted a number of major clubs to the region, said the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, were all interested in being part of the first major football match at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium.
Kam said that unlike Winman, his company had been “known to all clubs for years”, adding he did not believe it would be a problem for him to bring other major teams to the city.
But he criticised the actions surrounding Barcelona, who, according to a source, had not granted formal approval for last month’s El Clasico legends match at Hong Kong Stadium.
“You don’t see these sorts of things happening in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan or anywhere else,” Kam said. “It was reputationally damaging and did not provide a good image of Hong Kong.”
